Neumann Companies Timeline
1979 – Mark Neumann transitioned from a career in education as a math teacher and focused on real estate sales. By 1986 the company started building homes and grew to be one of the fastest growing businesses in America.
1987 – Matt Neumann grows up in an entrepreneurial family learning about their home building business at a young age.
1994 – Mark Neumann put his real estate career on hold when he was elected to and served in Congress.
2000 – After Congress, Mark started Neumann Developments focusing on developing land in harmony with nature, setting aside one acre of permanent open space for each acre that was developed. The development company started developing land in Kenosha and Racine Counties.
2001 – While developing land in Kenosha and Racine Counties, Neumann Companies formed a partnership with a local home builder, Gustaveson Homes. This partnership allowed each company to focus of their core competencies while working in harmony to build new neighborhoods throughout the area.
2004 – Matt Neumann graduates from Wisconsin Lutheran College with a Bachelor of Science degree and an emphasis in Business and Economics.
2004 – Matt joined his father, Mark, in business developing single family conservation subdivisions throughout Southern Wisconsin.
2004 – Based on the success of the developer/builder partnership, Neumann Companies expanded the business model to Jefferson County and partnered with another local home builder, Loos Homes. Together with Neumann Developments starting the neighborhoods and Loos Homes building Energy Star rated homes, the partnership started 40 to 60 homes each year.
2006 – Matt Neumann graduates from Marquette University with an MBA in Marketing & Finance. Shortly after earning his MBA, Matt becomes partner with his father at Neumann Companies.
2007 – The homebuilding industry was hit hard from the recession. Many builders and developers were forced to close their doors. To survive, Neumann Developments worked with its builder partners to build over 100 spec homes per year to survive during the recession, helping keep the land moving and trade partners employed. We were fortunate to never have a year in the red even during the recession. We were never forced to give any projects back to our banks or leave any projects unfinished.
2007 – To capitalize on an opportunity, Neumann Companies were co-founders and partners to start Tim O’Brien Homes. A new builder in Waukesha County focused on green building and energy efficient homes.
2009 – Neumann Companies hosted the MBA Parade of Homes and built Wisconsin’s first Energy Producing Home. It was this initiative that lead to the creation of SunVest Solar, Inc. to sell, market and finance solar array systems throughout the U.S.
2012 – The success of the home building company and development partnership continued. In January, an office was opened in Madison, Neumann Developments planned & developed neighborhoods while Tim O’Brien Homes built their green, energy efficient homes.
2017 – Neumann Developments started development on Wisconsin’s first Net Zero community, Red Fox Crossing in New Berlin. All the homes have a photovoltaic (PV) solar array to offset the electrical consumption of the home. Partners Sunvest Solar and Tim O’Brien Homes were involved in creating an energy independent community.
2017 – Partner company, Neumann Developments started creating planned unit developments (PUD) offering product diversity such as condominium homes, narrow and estate size homesites as well as amenities such as parks, multi-purpose courts, walking trails, pools and clubhouses.
2018 – Neumann Companies teamed up with Stars & Stripes Honor Flight, a nonprofit organization honoring veterans with a life-changing trip to visit the memorials in Washington D.C. and experience a day of honor. It is truly an honor to show our appreciation and sponsor a flight giving nearly 300 veterans, to date, their day of honor.
2018 – As material and labor prices continue to rise, Neumann Companies saw a demand in the marketplace for affordable new homes. In November, Harbor Homes was started to provide buyers an unmatched value with a fresh new line of smaller, more affordable homes.
2019 – Neumann Companies partners with custom home builder, Halen Homes, to transition and start building condominium homes and townhomes.
2020 – All Neumann Companies partners were deemed essential during the Covid-19 Pandemic. We were able to keep our doors open and actually expanded our businesses significantly to meet the demand for new housing and solar development.
